Annual General Meeting of the Merseyside Jewish Representative Council

All roles of the MJRC Honorary Officer are made at the AGM, you must inform the honorary secretary if you wish to stand for a role, either before the meeting via email honsecMJRC@gmail.com or in person at the start of the meeting

 

Getting involved with the work of the Merseyside Jewish Representative Council

The Merseyside Jewish Representative Council is growing our team, and we'd love for you to be a part of it. 

 

MJRC represents the Communities of Liverpool, Southport, Wirral and Chester and its neighbouring areas. We act as a facilitator, promoting co-operation and collaboration within the Jewish community, as well as between the community and the statutory authorities. We facilitate and promote  Jewish educational, cultural and religious activity. We represent the civic, cultural and faith life of the wider Merseyside Community.

There are various roles within MJRC  

  • Honorary Officer - This group is made up of the Chair, Two Vice Chairs, Hon Treasurer, Deputy Hon Treasurer, Hon Secretary, Deputy Hon Secretary;  Interfaith & Civic Rep, Ex Officio’s   (they have certain responsibilities about attendance and some of the running of the Charity

 

  • MJRC Exec this group is made up of – people from Jewish Communal organisations

 

  • MJRC General Supporters this group is made up of who are members of MJRC

 

  • MJRC Volunteer - this can be any person from the community who is asked to support communal activities, or to help plan events on behalf of the community e.g. Yom events, HMD events etc 

 

What does each role entail?

You may the list below helpful as it explains briefly what each role does, along with some duties that are common to all committee members. The tasks can be shared between different people so all the work need not fall on any one person.

 

Honorary Officers

 

Chairperson

  • Represents and acts as a spokesperson for the Merseyside Jewish Representative  Council  (MJRC) and ensures it complies with its governing document.

  • Chairs meetings of MJRC including committee meetings; open meetings and general meetings, such as the Annual General Meeting (AGM).

  • Sets the agenda for meetings together with the Hon Secretary

  • Co-ordinates the work of the committee to ensure effective administration.

  • Supports other committee members and authorises the work of the Hon Treasurer.

  • Liaises with other communal organisations fundraising, agendas and any other business.

  • Has oodles of energy and enthusiasm, good networking skills.

  • This person will become Trustee of the MJRC charity

 

Vice Chairs

 

  • These roles deputise for the chair if they are not available to chair MJRC meetings, or other meetings. (joint Vice Chairs)

  • Encourages participation and enthusiasm for the events organized by the MJRC

  • This person will become Trustee of the MJRC charity

  • At the retirement of the Chair, the vice chair is expected to become Chair

 

Hon Treasurer (& Deputy)

  • Ensures the committee are aware of the financial position of the MJRC, providing an up-to date written statement of accounts at committee meetings.

  • Ensures that the committee apply MJRC’s resources exclusively in pursuance of its objectives.

  • Presents accounts to the members at the AGM.

  • Manages the bank account, updating the list of signatories as necessary.

  • Issue bills and receipts on behalf of the MJRC and ensures that all necessary payments are made promptly.

  • Arranges the floats for the events organised by the MJRC. Collects monies raised during the events, arranges for them to be counted and banked promptly.

  • Ensures that the MJRC’s financial records are maintained accurately and updated on a timely basis.  Arranges for the accounts to be checked annually and independently.

  • Arranges for the accounts to be sent to the relevant authorities annually.

  • This person will become Trustee of the MJRC charity

 

 

Hon Secretary (& deputy)

  • Responds punctually to all correspondence, keeping proper records.

  • Organises all meetings including booking venues, arranging refreshments, liaising with attendees to ensure they are informed.

  • Draws up meeting agendas and circulates to all attendees punctually.

  • Takes accurate minutes during meetings, types up and sends them out to all attendees in a timely manner.

  • Promotes events Newsletter  

  • Supports all committee and staff members, by ensuring the administrative function is efficient.

  • This person will become Trustee of the MJRC charity

Interfaith & Civic Rep

  • Arranges Civic Service with Town Hall and Synagogues

  • Liaises with Town Hall and Rabbonim for the Chanukah Lighting

  • Supports other committee members on Interfaith initiatives

 

 

MJRC General Supporters & MJRC Exec this group attends meeting of MJRC, and offers advice, support to the group, along with raising concerns and issues affecting within the Jewish community

 

  • Liaise with other members of their communal organisations and communicate all activity of the MJRC

  • Help recruit volunteers for MJRC activities  when required (such civic service)

  • Be the point of contact for members of the community  in your communal organisations to feed views into MJRC

  • Liaise with shul council, and other management committees in relation to MJRC activity

  • Attend MJRC committee meetings 

 

MJRC Volunteer  - These positions and role will be to act as a co-ordinator to ensure that activities take place, they are not necessarily the person in charge or planning them. They will however be responsible for liaising with the MJRC lead – usually an Honorary officer .

 

Shared responsibilities for all members:

  • Act in the best interests of the MJRC, promoting its values and working to achieve its objectives.

  • Help to support, plan and deliver activities for the Jewish Community on  behalf of MJRC

  • Work as part of a team with the other committee members whilst bringing their own ideas, perspectives and experiences to the committee.

  • Regularly attend planning meetings and contribute to the effective management of the MJRC.

  • Contribute to the decision-making process of the committee.
